ACW24 Flt Lt John Victor Bradbury joined CGS in Oct 2005 after 34 years service in the Royal Navy as an electronic engineer. A BGA Full Category instructor he has a FAI Gold C badge with all three diamonds, he is also a CAA Motorglider instructor and has a PPL. He has been married to Elaine for 37 years; they have 3 children who have now all left home. He lives at Winthorpe just outside Newark. In his spare time he plays squash for Southwell in the Nottinghamshire League, enjoys skiing and is a lifetime supporter of Nottingham Forest! Email
ACW23 Flt Lt Shane Burton joined CGS as a Staff Instructor in 2006. He joined the Air Cadets in 1990 and flew his first solo in a Viking at 626 VGS in 1992. On his way to Cadet Warrant Officer he was awarded a flying scholarship and subsequently qualified as a pilot in 1994. He has British and American licences and returned to 626 VGS and became an instructor in 2001. Shane has over 6000 launches and 2000 total flying hours. His hobbies include foreign travel, and watching movies. Email
ACW29 Flt Lt Mike Dolphin originally joined CGS in March 2000 after having served as an RAF aircraft engineer for 23 years. A keen RAFGSA glider pilot he has been flying since 1982 when he went solo at RAF Brüggen. An ex Full Category BGA instructor he was also CFI at RAF Gütersloh in the mid 90’s. Hobbies include: Anything to do with aircraft, SCUBA diving, skiing and crosswords. Mike lives in Grantham with his partner Lynn and their pet slug called Norman. Email
ACW20 Flt Lt David Hill joined CGS in 2005, having previously worked for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at the Air Warfare Centre RAF Waddington. David did his Basic Glider Training course in the Venture motorglider at 611VGS, RAF Swanton Morley in 1986. After completing his physics degree at the Univeristy of East Anglia in 1993 he joined the Defence Research Agency in Farnborough and once again became involved with the Air cadets at a local squadron. Upon moving to Lincolnshire with work, he joined a local squadron and was their officer commanding a few years later. David started cadet gliding again in 1997 at 625VGS, Hullavington and then later with 643VGS, Syerston. Email
ACW28 Flt Lt Adey Hobson joined CGS in June 2006 as a Qualified Gliding Instructor (QGI) and Examiner. Having started as an Air Cadet back in 1989, he started RAF Gliding in October 1999 with 643 Volunteer Gliding Squadron. He initially learnt to fly the Vigilant aircraft before converting to the Viking several years later. Having progressed to an A2 QGI he subsequently took over the role of Chief Flying Instructor in April 2005, before arriving at CGS the following year. In 2011 he achieved an A1 QGI and took over the additional duties of Unit Flight Safety Officer and Information Manager; he also assists the Occurrence Manager and Chief Groundschool Instructor as their deputies. Away from CGS he is married with two young sons, and holds a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon-Do. Email
ACW26 Flt Lt Graeme Monie BSc (Hons) first flew solo as an Air Cadet at RAF Swanton Morely in a T61A motor glider (XW983) in 1975. He started instructing in 1984 at 625 VGS South Cerney, flying the Venture motor glider. In 1985, 625 VGS was converted to the Viking glider. However, a family move to Derbyshire meant that he had to leave 625 VGS in 1989. After returning to Wiltshire in 1997, he recommenced his ACO career with 637 VGS at Little Rissington flying the Vigilant, where he quickly regained his A2 instructor category. Graeme joined CGS in Nov 1999; he is an A1 category staff instructor and holds a PPL with IMC rating. He has been married to Jayne for 33 years and his hobbies include running, reading and narrow boating. Email

ACW30 Flt Lt Dave Smith started gliding in 1995 as a cadet with 642VGS. He progressed through the categories achieving his A2 in 2001; he then served 4 years as the CFI and 8 months as CO before joining CGS in 2006. Since arriving at CGS he has progressed further and achieved his A1 category in May 2010. He is currently responsible for running the Senior Supervisors Courses. In his personal life he keeps active playing football and mountain biking (not at the same time!!), he is also a keen photographer and currently studying with the Open University towards a BSc in Astrophysics. He also enjoys watching Formula 1 and ice hockey, in particular his local team the Sheffield Steelers Email
